چکیده

In this paper decoding of a concatenated code is considered. We use a Bounded Minimum Distance (BMD) decoder for the inner code correcting up to (d − 1)/2 errors and a Bounded Distance (BD) decoder for the outer code, which corrects ε errors and τ erasures if λε + τ ≤ d − 1, where a real number 1 < λ ≤ 2 is the tradeoff rate between errors and erasures for this outer decoder. Here d and d are the minimum distances of the outer and the inner code, respectively. We consider a single-trial outer decoder, which extends Kovalev’s approach [1] for the whole given range of λ. The error correcting radius of the suggested concatenated decoder is d ido 2 ( 1− (λ−1 λ )2) . When using an outer Reed–Solomon code over Fq`m of length n ≤ q with the BD decoder suggested in [2], λ = `+1 ` , and the error correcting radius d ido 2 ( 1− 1 (1−`)2 ) of the concatenated decoder quickly approaches dd/2 with increasing `.

Coding and Iterative Decoding of Concentrated Multi-level Codes for the Rayleigh Fading Channel

In this thesis we present the concept of concatenated multilevel codes. These codes are a combination of generalized concatenated codes with multilevel coding. The structure of these codes is simple and relies on the concatenation of two or more codes of shorter length. These codes can be designed to have large diversity which makes them attractive for use in fading channels. We also present an...

Guaranteed error correction rate for a simple concatenated coding scheme with single-trial decoding

We consider a concatenated coding scheme using a single inner code, a single outer code, and a fixed single-trial decoding strategy that maximizes the number of errors guaranteed to be corrected in a concatenated codeword. For this scheme, we investigate whether maximizing the guaranteed error correction rate, i.e., the number of correctable errors per transmitted symbol, necessitates pushing t...

A convolutional single-parity-check concatenated coding scheme for high-data-rate applications

Absfmcf-The paper describes the possible implementation of concatenated coding scheme suitable particularly for high date rate applications. The proposed coding scheme uses a set of n convolutional codes multiplexed into an inner code and a (n, n 1) single-parity-check code serving as the outer code. Each of the inner convolutional codes is decoded independently with maximum-likelihood decoding...

Adaptive Coding and Modulation for OFDM Systems using Product Codes and Fuzzy Rule Base System

Adaptive communication has gained attentions of almost all future communication systems, especially Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) Systems. Adaptive nature pays in terms of rate and power while satisfying certain criteria. In fact, this is a constrained optimization problem. In this paper a similar constrained optimization problem is focused. Adaptive modulation has been a ke...

A Note on Performance of Generalized Tail Biting Trellis Codes

Tail biting trellis codes and block concatenated codes are discussed from random coding arguments. Error exponents and decoding complexity for generalized tail biting (GTB) random trellis codes, and their relationships are derived, where the GTB trellis codes consist of full tail biting (FTB) trellis codes, partial tail biting (PTB) trellis codes and direct truncated (DT) trellis codes. We show...
